The Life Mission Center is located about 3 hours outside Ghana’s capital city, Accra, in the Volta Region. For about a decade, the Life Mission Center operated as a Restoration Center, helping restore and rehabilitate many women and children that had been trapped in Trokosi Slavery. Trokosi slavery is a horrible practice run by local witch doctors who make girls pay for the sins of their ancestors by taking them from their families and making them sex slaves. Thankfully we were able to rescue many of these women, providing an education and also job training so that they could go on to support themselves and their families.
In addition to helping these women, we have also built a school house where about 50 children from the surrounding neighborhood come and learn how to read and write, but most importantly they are taught that Jesus loves them! Once this area was completely desolate, but now it is really a Life Center for the whole community. Just a few years ago we were able to get electricity on the campus and now people from all of the neighborhood will come to charge their cell phones and also hear the Word of God.
Today, we still work in many preventive measures to educate the women in the surrounding communities so that they are not susceptible to this Trokosi Slavery. We do this by providing empowerment programs, sharing the love of Christ, and teaching the basics of entrepreneurship. In addition to reaching the children of the community with weekly Good News Clubs which share the love of Christ, we also now host retreats for Pastors and Church workers looking for a place of rest and meditation.
Ben Nanortey serves as ministry director for the campus. Alongside his wife Dorothy, they pastor a local church in Accra and also operate a LIFE Leadership Institute, training leaders for the Church.
